Founded in 1954, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church is a parish of the Eparchy of Passaic. We are also part of the Byzantine Catholic (Ruthenian) Metropolitan Church, the only Eastern Catholic Metropolitan Church sui iuris (self-governing) in the United States.
Following the Constantinopolitan Tradition of the Catholic Church and led by His Grace Bishop Kurt R. Burnette, Eparch of Passaic, we are in full communion with the Church of Rome led by His Holiness, Pope Francis.
As we strive to grow in spirit and fellowship in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we are especially grateful to His Grace Bishop Kurt for his prayers and continued generous support of our parish.
Having Suffered, Preterpivyj
In the Byzantine Catholic Church in Galicia and Subcarpathian Rus’, one of the often-heard paraliturgical hymns during the Great Fast is “Preterpiviy” (Having Sufffered). It is usually sung three times successively, each singing accompanied with a prostration (a complete bow of the body with the head touching the floor). Having suffered the passion for us, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy, have mercy, have mercy on us.
Preterpivyj za nas strasti, Isuse Christe, Syne Bozij, pomiluj, pomiluj, pomiluj nas.
